DEEDS currently works with volunteers from Development in Action (DIA), based in the U.K.

Development in Action arranges voluntary placements in India enabling people to learn about development. The role of the volunteers on the DEEDS placement is to contribute enthusiastically as much as possible to our programmes in Bangalore and Ponnai, and to learn about development education issues in practice.

Their specific roles depend upon each volunteer's skills as well as the specific needs of the project. Areas where volunteers may be able to get invoved include:

  • Teaching English, Maths and Science and craft using practical, innovative and effective methods that appeal to the children, both in a non-formal setting and as after school tutoring,
  • Women's English classes
  • Working with children's clubs and contributing to specific children's club committees
  • Administration work in the DEEDS office – maintaining the office database, computer training for staff and children, proof reading, web-design, planning questionnaires, case studies etc..
  • Teacher training, programme documentation and evaluation, health education
  • Skills training (i.e. carpentry, TV repair etc...)
  • Cultural activities and research evaluation.

Visit the Development in Action website and click 'Placement Scheme' for more information, or to apply. Please note that DEEDS only accepts volunteers through DIA.
